Wondering About God?
We were in a restaurant one day in Ogden and saw a young lady with a shirt on that said, "Dear Lord, please save me from your followers!" It was pretty funny but a little sad at the same time. The truth is that the message on this T-shirt spoke volumes of truth. For centuries, God in all of His forms has been personified by the people who follow Him. Because of this, God gets an incredibly bad rap a lot of the time for being someone He is not . At the Genesis Project we don't practice religion. In fact we don't even like religion! And it may shock you to find out that God doesn't like religion either. We know this because He says so in the Bible. Religion by definition is man's attempt to reach God with rules, regulations and ceremonies. The Bible says that this doesn't impress or intrigue God in any way. God says in Isaiah 29:13 "And so the Lord says, “These people say they are mine. They honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far away from me. Their worship of me is nothing more than man-made rules learned by repetition." What God wants from us more than anything is for us to pursue Him so that He can show us the truth about who He is through a personal relationship with Jesus. This God, who most people view as angry and condemning, loved us so much that He came to die for us and pay the penalty that He knew we could never afford on our own. If this sounds like a God you would like to get to know, we would love to introduce you to Him. At the Genesis Project we promise never to stalk you, use bait and switch tactics, or try to beat you up with our point of view. We are not even asking you to change what you believe before you come and see what God is doing in our church family. It is not our job to SAVE you; that responsibility is on God. We just want to show you the truth about who God says He is, and help you find the incredible adventure of living that truth out on a daily basis. When you think about it, the only opinion about God that really counts is His. We hope we can help you find what you are looking for, and look forward to serving you in any way that we can.
